Stigma & Discrimination Elimination

Stigma & Discrimination Elimination

Malaria remains a significant health concern in South Sudan, but SSNEP+ is actively engaged in multi-faceted efforts to combat this disease. We focus on three key areas:

1. Prevention:

  • Distributing Long-Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs): These nets are treated with insecticides that repel, kill, and disable mosquitos, significantly reducing the risk of malaria transmission. SSNEP+ prioritizes distributing LLINs to vulnerable populations like children under five, pregnant women, and communities in high-burden areas.
  • Promoting Community Awareness: Education is critical. SSNEP+ works tirelessly to educate communities on various preventive measures, including proper use of LLINs, environmental management clearing stagnant water, and recognizing early fever symptoms.

2. Diagnosis:

  • Supporting Rapid Diagnostic Testing (RDTs): Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment. SSNEP+ advocates for availability of RDTs in healthcare facilities across South Sudan and supports training of health workers.
  • Strengthening Community Case Management (CCM): SSNEP+ trains and equips community health workers to diagnose and treat uncomplicated malaria cases in remote villages.

3. Treatment:

  • Ensuring Access to Effective Medication: Access to life-saving antimalarial drugs is vital. SSNEP+ works with partners to guarantee consistent medication supplies at community clinics.
  • Promoting Treatment Adherence: Completing full prescribed medication regimens is critical to prevent relapse and drug resistance.
